Marriage Requirements

  1. Is there a waiting period in Texas

    The 72 hours (3 days) waiting period in Texas can be waived for active duty military personnel.

  2. Is there a residency requirement in Texas?

    No residency requirement.

  3. What is the fee for a marriage license?

    $31 - $71.00 cash, so don't leave home without it! The fees may vary from Texas county to county. 

    NOTE: Effective September 2008, the license fee will be waived if a couple takes an 8-hour premarital preparation course that covers important marital skills and issues such as conflict management and communication.

  4. Is there a blood test required?

    No, there is no blood test required.

  5. What if I have been divorced?

    If divorced within thirty days, Texas requires that you show a certified copy of your divorce decree stating the 30 day waiting period is waived.

  6. How long is the license valid?

    The license is valid in Texas for 30 days.

The ceremony

  1. Where do I find samples of vows online?

    I have used this website many times when writing ceremonies and I recommend it highly.

  2. Is it ok for my family member/friend to read a verse or poem?

    Yes, I am more than happy to accomodate the ceremony so that a loved one can read something significant to the couple.  I have also done weddings where a loved one has sang a song.

  3. Do you also do rehearsals the day before?

    Yes, for an additional $75, I will do the rehearsal a day or two prior to the wedding.

  4. Do you do religious weddings?

    Yes, I do religious weddings; but I also do civil ones.  I am pretty flexible on the type of ceremony the couple wants to have.
